thanks Paul. I agree with you to a degree. Vampires are considered very dangerous sexy creatures and are therefore utilised greatly in 'romances' of all sorts. Twilight is a homogenised, PG-13 teen girl meets vampire story where fangs and blood and anything 'unpleasant' are not mentioned at all. It's a toothless vampire story in a way written in such a way to be suitable for a young adult audience. No fangs, no blood, no biting, 'vegetarian' good vampires living among humans and dazzling them in the sunshine.

I have bookmarked your link for future reading when I have more time to read it all and will get back to you.

Of course one can not argue the commercial success of Twilight. However, I feel that once again vampire mythos has been sold for the price of a caricature for the sake of being a convenient (and stripped down) vehicle for another genre, that being garden variety, teen romance. As a stickler for character study, I believe that much contemporary vampire material goes commercial at the expense of more thoughtful consideration of the core, vampire mythology. If you too think it's time for a smarter vampire story once again, please consider: www.InParisDark.com and share it with a friend if you agree.
