The Argeneaus are back, and as always, I enjoyed the hilarious ride of the Argeneau of the hour (in this novel, a relative, Cale Valens) and his quest to find his life mate — his eternal love, perfectly suited to him (or in the case of a few books, her). Although the plot has occasionally been thicker in other books in the series, the fun development of the characters and their romance makes this one a winner.
Alexandra Willan is one of three sisters. The other two, unbeknownst to her, have become lifemates to vampires — or Immortals, as they choose to be called. A sous chef with a successful French restaurant, Alex has enough on her plate — proverbial and literal — to keep her busy without looking for a man. Her sisters, however, have other ideas, and Marguerite Argeneau, eternal matchmaker of her family, has just the Immortal for her. Cale is a warrior thousands of years old, and his family comes up with a “brilliant” scheme for him to spend time with Alex, just in case she is the one for him: he will pose as a replacement chef. The problem? Like most immortals, Cale detests the smell and sight of food, a taste only reawakened with the arrival of a life mate.
Meanwhile, aside from trying to replace her chef with Cale, Alex has other problems on her plate. A string of bad luck has followed the opening of her second restaurant, plaguing her with expenses she cannot afford. Luckily for Alex, Cale is much more of a businessman than a cook, and his vampire connections help in keeping away more of the “unlucky” events happening around her restaurant.
Hungry for You is definitely a winner for readers of the Argeneau series, but newcomers might want to jump in a little earlier in the series. I liked the book overall, but I had a little trouble connecting to Cale. His backstory seemed to be missing a few too many key elements — I hope Sands fills in more blanks on the Valens line in another book!
This was not a bad pick — a quick and fun read with a lot of laughs.
